Viktat vs Oviktat Medelbetyg: Skillnaderna | Grade Calcy

Förstå de viktiga skillnaderna mellan viktning enligt kursplan och ett enkelt aritmetiskt medelvärde.

Throughout your academic career, you encounter two fundamentally different methods of calculating performance: unweighted grading and weighted grading. Knowing which system your class uses is the difference between passing comfortably and receiving an unexpected lower grade on your transcript.

Comparing the Two Architectures

Unweighted System

Every assessment has equal influence. A 90% on a 10-minute quiz shifts your overall course average by the exact same amount as a 90% on a four-hour comprehensive exam.

Best for: Elementary/middle school, low-stakes introductory electives.

Weighted System

Assessments are divided into weighted categories (e.g., Projects 20%, Tests 50%, Final 30%). High-stakes assessments carry proportional mathematical power.

Best for: High school AP/IB classes, university coursework, professional certification.

Weighted GPA vs. Weighted Course Grade

In high school, "weighted GPA" often refers to an extra point added for honors or Advanced Placement (AP) courses (e.g. an A in AP Biology equals 5.0 instead of 4.0). In college, however, "weighted grade" almost always refers to syllabus category percentages within a single course.

Hjälp & Svar

Vanliga Frågor (FAQ)

Allt du behöver veta om att beräkna viktade betyg, tentor och betygssnitt.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted grades?
In an unweighted grading system, every assignment, quiz, and test is worth the exact same value. In a weighted grading system, different categories contribute fixed percentages (e.g., Exams 50%, Homework 20%, Final 30%) towards your overall course grade.
Does college use weighted or unweighted grades?
Nearly all university courses use weighted grading outlined in the professor's syllabus. A midterm or final exam will carry significantly more weight than weekly reading responses.
